Tonight’s Film
Okay so tonight we will have two to choose from: Either Grey Gardens which is a crazy film about a couple of eccentric women and well it just looks like an amazing film- I don’t like to know too much about a film before I see it so I imagine you don’t as well.
The other is a dark and much less humorous look at another coal mining operation in Kentucky where union busting led to several murders. Harlan County U.S.A. looks like a remarkable film. I haven’t seen it but the reviews appear trustworthy.
Depending on the room we’ll see one of these- fun and whimsical liberty gone wild, or jaw dropping drama of worker oppression… hmmm maybe both?

It tells the events of a young girl born in the squalor of Communist Russia who came to America embracing its ideals and becoming one of he most widely read authors and philosophers in American history.

Tonight’s Film: 1918 Influenza
The influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 killed more people than the Great War, known today as World War I (WWI), at somewhere between 20 and 40 million people. It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. More people died of influenza in a single year than in four-years of the Black Death Bubonic Plague from 1347 to 1351. Known as “Spanish Flu” or “La Grippe” the influenza of 1918-1919 was a global disaster.
This film really puts things in perspective. Starts at 7pm on the nose.
